The type of assessment your child needs will depend on a number of things. Some families may be referred by their child's paediatrician or another allied health provider, or by their child's school for a particular assessment. Other times, parents may know their child needs help but not be sure what type of assessment is needed. This is why we offer an introductory call and a personalised assessment plan to best tailor an assessment for your child.

The timeline for an assessment will depend on the number of sessions required. However, we aim to complete assessments within about 8 weeks from start to finish.

During the parent intake session the psychologist will ask questions about:

  • Your child's early development including pregnancy and birth, developmental milestones and whether any delays were observed.

  • Your child's overall health and wellbeing.

  • Their academic history.

  • Their social and emotional development.

  • Any behavioural concerns you have about your child.

  • Your child's interests and strengths.

The goal of parent sessions is to support parents with strategies and skills to manage the demands of child raising. Sessions are individualised and informed by parent goals, child developmental and neurotype information and parenting style. Either one or both parents can be involved in parent sessions.
